Dr. Bonnie Lou Mallonga ’06, who earned a Ph.D. in Education, received the Golden Heart Award from Child Care Inc., of New York City, an advocacy organization that seeks to create a public will to expand and enhance the quality of early care and education in New York. In addition, data she gathered for her dissertation, Predictors of Organizational Commitment Among Preschool Teachers in a Northeastern Urban Setting, were used in an initiative that helps preschool teachers in the Bronx gain certification.

 

Kimberly Madison ’05, who earned an M.S. in Education with a specialization in Elementary Reading and Literacy, was recognized in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. She teaches first grade at Oak Grove Elementary in Peachtree City, Ga.

 

Dr. Deborah Proctor ’05, who earned a Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Educational Technology, presented two sessions at the Convergence of Learning, Libraries and Technology conference held in March and hosted by the Ohio Digital Commons for Education. She presented “What Do the Digital Natives Want? Issues and Priorities of Online Students” and co-presented “Blank Easel: What Is a Canned Course? Faculty Perceptions of Courses Created by Others.” The presentations focused on the interactions of faculty and students in an online learning environment.

 

Neil Schafer ’04, who earned an M.S. in Education with a specialization in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, is the coordinator for Norristown Area High School’s Health Sciences Small Learning Community in Norristown, Pa. The organization recently brought more than 350 students and 24 teachers together with a local hospital and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to raise breast cancer awareness.

 

Dr. Martin Trammell ’99, who earned a Ph.D. in Education, published his first book, Redeeming Relationships. The book presents workable solutions for relational conflict and includes templates for reducing the frequency of 10 common conflicts individuals face in their relationships. Trammell is the chair of the English/Communication/ Journalism Department at Corban College in Salem, Ore.

 

Dr. Peter A. Maresco ’98, who earned a Ph.D. in Education, had two articles published: “Personalized Gravestones: Your Life’s Passion for All to See and Hear,” published in The Journal of Religion and Popular Culture, and “World Wrestling Entertainment: Achieving Continued Growth and Market Penetration Through International Expansion,” published in The Sport Journal. He also presented “Achieving Continued Growth in the Luxury Market Without Brand Dilution: A Case Study of Leading Hotels of the World” at the Congresso Latino-Americano de Administracion conference, in France, and “The Innovative Teaching Coalition: Development of Digital Course Materials to Enhance Face-to-Face Course Instruction” at the Educational Innovation in Economics and Business Administration conference in Lisbon. Maresco is an assistant professor in the John F. Welch College of Business at Sacred Heart University, in Connecticut.

 

Dr. Shelley Hamill ’97, who earned a Ph.D. in Education, was elected chair of the South Carolina Association for the Advancement of Health Education. She has served on numerous community boards and was one of the founders of an HIV/AIDS clinic in Rock Hill, S.C. Hamill is an assistant professor at Winthrop University in Rock Hill.

 

Dr. Joann Joyner ’93, who earned a Ph.D. in Education, became a SEEK counselor and affirmative action officer at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, N.Y. Joyner provides mental health counseling services to the student population.
