Dr. Horace A. Bryan ’06, who earned a Ph.D. in Applied Management and Decision Sciences with a specialization in Finance, was selected to be an adjunct professor at Trinity University in Washington, D.C.

 

Dr. Hwang-Ji Sherrie Lu ’06, who earned a Ph.D. in Applied Management and Decision Sciences with a specialization in Leadership and Organizational Change, was selected to serve as a judge for the American Society for Quality International Team Excellence Award.

 

Dr. G. Stan Reeley Jr. ’06, who earned a Ph.D. in Ph.D. in Applied Management and Decision Sciences with a specialization in Leadership and Organizational Change, had an article, “The Impact of External, Socially Synthetic Forces, Such as Mass Media, Video Games, and the Internet, on Human Behavior,” published in Essays in Education. The article explores the impact mass media, the Internet and other desocialization distractions might have on today’s young people and future leaders.

Leslie Caspersen ’05, who earned an M.B.A., accepted a position as a corporate research analyst at Shriners International Headquarters in Tampa, Fla. Caspersen is also enrolled in Walden's Ph.D. in Applied Management and Decision Sciences program.

 

Jonathan Kalbfeld ’05, who earned a B.S. in Business Administration, had an article, “Develop an RTOS on Solaris With RTEMS,” published in Embedded Systems Design. Kalbfeld is a senior staff member at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.

 

Marvin Kelly ’05, who earned an M.B.A., was elected vice president of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriting Society in 2006. He will become president in 2008. He is the first African American in the 62-year history of the society to be elected to this position. Kelly is the executive director of the Texas Property and Casualty Insurance Guaranty Association, profiled recently in Texas Monthly magazine as one of the 60 Best Companies to Work for in the State of Texas.

 

Matthew Redmond ’04, who earned an M.B.A., published “60 Minutes to a Solution,” an article about hosting better business meetings, in the February 2007 issue of Quality Progress.

 

Dr. Stephanie Thankappan ’04, who earned a Ph.D. in Applied Management and Decision Sciences with a specialization in Leadership and Organizational Change, recently returned from a tour in India where she lectured and taught at the World Yoga Congress conducted by the Indian Sports and Youth Affairs and Olympic Association. Thankappan and her partner, Guru Dileepji, were presented with the International Siva-Shakti Award for their work propagating yoga in families. While in India, Thankappan and Dileepji also met with government and political officials.

 

Dr. Cheryl Crozier Garcia ’03, who earned a Ph.D. in Applied Management and Decision Sciences, earned the Professional in Human Resources designation. In July, she will present a paper, “Using Core Values as a Means to Accomplish Cultural Change: Two Examples,” at the Seventh International Conference on Knowledge, Culture and Change in Organisations, to be held in Singapore. Garcia is an assistant professor and chair of the master’s program in human resource management at Hawaii Pacific University.

 

Dr. Sharon T. Freeman ’98, who earned a Ph.D. in Applied Management and Decision Sciences, was named Small Business Journalist of the Year by the All American Small Business Exporters Association. Freeman received Walden’s 2005 Outstanding Alumni Award for her work as an entrepreneur, author, and global change agent. Dr. Alan W. White ’95, who earned a Ph.D. in Administration/Management, became a contractor with the Department of State as an executive advisor to the Afghan Ministry of Interior, which is responsible for national law enforcement and domestic security. White arrived in Kabul in March and will serve a one-year tour.

 

Dr. Madeline Frank ’94, an international violist and music expert who earned a Ph.D. in Administration/Management, performed in the Great Hall at the Wren Building in a March scholarship concert for the College of William and Mary in honor of the Daniel Pearl Festival Concert Program and the Romayne Leader Frank Charitable Foundation.
