Inspiration ABOVE & BEYOND AWARDS
This award recognizes family members and friends who went above and beyond to help Walden students achieve academic success and fulfill their dreams. Last year, Walden presented four Above and Beyond Awards at the summer commencement.
Award Recipient: George Bowers (fiancé) Walden Graduate: Cynthia Hawkins Degree Earned: B.S. in Business Administration“There were times when I didn’t think I would make it through the program, but George was always there to encourage me. Award Recipient: Barbara Hendrickson (wife) Walden Graduate: Thomas Hendrickson Degree Earned: M.S. degree in Nursing“When my computer crashed, she made sure we had a new one in two days. When I misplaced a journal article—something I did frequently—Barbara would diligently search and find it… She has always been supportive of my adventures, but my experience atWalden raised her support to a new level. Award Recipient: Jim Lusa (husband) Walden Graduate: Jennifer V. Lusa Degree Earned: Ph.D. in Psychology“My internship required that I relocate out of state for one year. Jim helped me set up in my out-of-state apartment, from which I commuted home every weekend. During my Academic Year in Residence, he kept the household running like a well-oiled machine. He would drop me off at the airport with a smile on his face and be there to collect me with a smile on my return.” Jennifer Lusa
